Dr. Stan Cooke was born on August 12, 1960, in Jasper, Alabama to Kyle and Irene Cooke and was raised in the small coal mining town of Sumiton, located in eastern Walker County. He attended Sumiton Elementary and Sumiton Junior High and graduated from Dora High School.
Stan worked summer jobs at the V. J. Elmore's warehouse in Homewood and at several coal mines operated by Drummond Coal to earn money to be able to attend college. He was the first of his family to graduate college and went on to earn a doctorate. His degrees are from Lee University, The Jewish-Christian Institute, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham / The University of Alabama dual-degree program.
During Stan's early years in the ministry, he also worked full-time in management for a medical laboratory and a business systems company. He also was an instructor at Virginia College. He has over 35 years of ministerial experience and 19 years in industry.
Stan is the Founder and President of Abraham's Promise, an international Christian mission organization that supports benevolence programs in Israel as well as a Christian school in Bethlehem, Israel.
Stan Cooke is married to Linda Michelle Cooke. Michelle works full-time as a Word Processing Specialist for the law firm of Burr & Forman LLP at their corporate headquarters in Birmingham. Stan and Michelle have two daughters: Heather Cooke Hill and Heidi Cooke. Heather (age 30) is an Occupational Therapist. Heidi (age 25) is also an Occupational Therapist.
Stan is a life-long Republican and his first political experience was as a College Republican working in the 1980 and 1984 Ronald Reagan for President Campaigns. He has also worked in several political campaigns at the local, state, and national levels. He ran for Lieutenant Governor in 2014 and for the House of Representatives in 2010.
Work with the State Legislature to restore proper funding to the State Auditor's Office so that the State Auditor can fulfill all required Constitutional Duties with Integrity and Excellence.
Insure accountability to the Taxpayers of Alabama by maintaining accurate records of all state personal property.
Provide the Constitutional Check and Balance between the Comptroller's Office and the State Treasury.
Work with the Governor and other Elected Constitutional Officers of Alabama to make the State Government more Effective and Efficient.
Assist with the recruitment of new Businesses and Industries to Alabama that will offer a better quality of life for our citizens.
Ensure that the public image of the State Auditor's office is known for Integrity, Honor, and Respect — one that you can be proud of.
